R U OK? is an Australian suicide prevention charity that encourages us all to have regular, meaningful conversations with anyone we’re worried about. R U OK? envisions a world where we’re all connected and are protected from suicide. R U OK? Day is an annual day held to remind us all to check in with our friends, families, neighbors, colleagues, school friends or anyone else we think might be struggling.
The Jim Young Society has partnered with R U OK? to inspire Canadians to help others. We believe that regular, meaningful conversations can change lives. To learn more about Jim Young’s story, visit our ABOUT page.
The Jim Young Society’s vision is to see R U OK? Day have the same impact in Canada as it is having in Australia. About 1 in 4 Australians participate in R U OK? Day. We hope to make that happen in Canada, too.
Resources:
R U OK? has some great tools to help us all know how to ask, “Are you okay?” and to understand what to do next. The Australian website – www.ruok.org.au – has many excellent free, downloadable resources under “365 Day Resources”. We plan to create similar Canadian resources as R U OK? gets up and running in Canada, but for now you can download, print and share these two simple brochures which help tell the R U OK? story for Canadians.
